My aunt's cat tried to 'help' with my sourdough and it was a total mess

So I was visiting my aunt in Phoenix last month and decided to bake a loaf. I had my starter bubbly and my dough was proofing on her kitchen counter. Her cat, a big fluffy orange guy named Cheeto, was just watching me. I turned away for maybe 30 seconds to grab a towel, and I hear this weird slapping sound. I turn back and Cheeto is full-on kneading my dough with his paws, like he's making biscuits. He left little paw prints all over it and got fur stuck in the sticky mess. My aunt just walked in, saw it, and said, 'Oh, he's just adding his special ingredient.' I had to toss the whole batch. Has anyone else had a pet totally wreck a bake in progress?

Wait, isn't sourdough starter dangerous for cats? I read the yeast can make them really sick if they eat it. Maybe keep Cheeto away from the next batch, just in case.

Oh man, that's scary to think about. Good looking out for Cheeto. Gotta keep the little guys safe.

Just realized my cat probably thinks my sourdough starter is a weird science project. He gives it the side eye every morning. Honestly, I'm more of a danger to the bread than he is. My last loaf could have been used as a doorstop.
