PSA: My neighbor's kid got a $30 charge for a 'digital wallet' reload he didn't approve

He was showing me his phone bill yesterday, and there was a line item for a payment app he barely uses. He said it happened after he linked his debit card to a game on his tablet last month. The game just took the money without a second prompt. It made me think these micro-transactions are getting way too easy to trigger, especially for younger users. Has anyone else seen unexpected charges pop up from linked payment methods in apps?

It feels like the whole system is designed to be a bit sneaky now. They make it simple to link a card but then hide the actual spending behind one extra click. That's how these small charges add up without anyone really noticing.

Ugh that's so frustrating, did he contact his bank? I had something similar happen with a subscription that kept charging after I canceled. I called my card company, explained it was an unauthorized charge, and they reversed it and sent me a new card number. Now I use virtual card numbers for any app or game link, it stops them from pulling more money later. Honestly these companies bank on people not fighting the small charges.

Wait they sent you a whole new card number? That's wild, I've never heard of that happening before!
