Finally caved and bought a $90 Japanese steel clipper blade for my cordless Andis

It glides through thick hair like butter and holds an edge way longer, but now I'm wondering if I should upgrade all my blades or if that's overkill for a shop that mostly does fades.

Honestly, for a shop that's mostly fades, that one good blade is probably enough. You use your main clipper for the bulk of the work anyway. I keep a cheaper set for just cleaning up the neck and around the ears, stuff that doesn't need the super sharp edge. Saves some cash and the wear on the expensive blade.

My buddy burned out his expensive blade just lining up necks, total waste. He does the two-clipper thing now and it's way smarter.

Yeah I did the same thing last year. Bought one of those fancy blades for my main clipper, the one I use for all my initial bulk removal and fading. It's a total game changer for that. But my other two clippers just have the standard blades for detail work and cleaning up. No point putting that wear on the expensive steel for just lining up a neckline, you know? Saves a ton of money in the long run.
