My mentor swore by thinning shears for every client and I was skeptical at first
Old school barber named Ray told me to use thinning shears on a thick cowlick crown that I usually fight with clippers for 20 minutes. I tried his method on a regular last Tuesday, blended it smooth in five minutes and the guy almost cried happy tears. So who's got the real deal advice I should trust next, the old heads or the modern scissor guys?

Ain't thinning shears just gonna leave gaps when that cowlick grows back?

@dylanmurray nah, that cowlick stays trained once you blend it right... trust the old heads on this one.

Yo exactly @seanlee is right on this one. The trick is texturizing with the shears but keeping the length up top so the cowlick lays flat against the heavier weight. If you go too short around it that's when it starts popping up like a damn flag.
