Rant: I just blew $300 on a 'competition grade' brisket injection that ruined a whole cook

Man that's the worst feeling. Seems like everything these days has some "pro" or "competition" label slapped on it to justify a crazy price. Half the time the old basics work better than the fancy stuff. You see it with tools, with kitchen gear, with all sorts of hobbies. It's like they're selling you a solution to a problem you didn't even have. Sorry about the brisket, that's a tough loss.

Honestly, those competition products can be a game changer when they work. Sometimes you just get a bad batch or need more practice with the technique.

Ugh, I saw a whole thread about this exact thing. Some guy was saying the "competition" label is just a way to charge more for regular stuff in a black bottle. Makes you wonder, right @finleyh89? He had test results showing the fancy rub had the same salt content as the cheap stuff from the grocery store.
