A commenter told my thumbnails were boring - here's what changed
Some random person said my thumbnails looked like stock photos, so I started adding arrows and red circles everywhere. Has anyone else found that ugly thumbnails actually beat polished ones?

Man I feel this one. My first 20 videos I spent like 2 hours each making clean minimal thumbnails with nice gradients. Then some guy called them "youtube screensaver material" so I went full trash mode with red arrows and that yellow text. My CTR jumped from like 4% to 11% literally overnight. Its crazy how the ugly stuff works better.

Ngl I think that's just people clicking on trash out of habit though. You train your audience to expect garbage and they click garbage, doesn't mean you're making better content.
