Honestly, a comment on my video about using the same 5 hashtags every time really made me rethink things.
Someone said my posts felt like spam because I wasn't actually reading the hashtag feeds I was using. I started checking the 'top' and 'recent' tabs for each one before posting, and my reach on Instagram actually went up. Anyone else get called out for lazy hashtag use?

Total graveyard" is a perfect way to put it. You're just talking to yourself at that point. Better to find a few busy spots than a bunch of dead ends.

Yeah, it's like putting up flyers on a bunch of empty buildings. You're technically doing the thing, but no one's ever going to see it.
