Finally switched to wax chain lube after 10 years of wet lubes
I used to swear by wet lubes for my winter commuter until a buddy in Seattle showed me his chain after 400 miles with wax, zero grime and still running quiet, so I gave it a shot last November and now I'm never going back even though reapplying is more work - has anyone else made the switch and found a good routine for layering wax on a previously oiled drivetrain?

Ever degreased that drivetrain before laying down the first coat of wax? That leftover wet lube gunk will keep the wax from bonding right and you'll end up with a sticky mess instead of that clean, quiet ride. I'd strip the chain and cassette with mineral spirits first, then hit it with rubbing alcohol before the initial wax bath.

Did you use a citrus degreaser for the strip? I did the whole mineral spirits then alcohol thing and it came out perfect, but man was that a messy afternoon in my garage haha. Totally worth it though, my chain looks brand new after 300 miles and I'm not even kidding.

Mineral spirits worked great for me too but yeah that garage smelled for days haha.
