Just found out the average bike shop sees over 200 flat tires a year

I was reading an old trade magazine at my buddy's shop while waiting for a part, and a small article had a survey from a few years back. It said the average independent shop fixes about 220 customer flats in a year. That number really got me thinking, because in a slow week I might do three, and in a busy one maybe ten. It adds up fast. It made me realize how much of our daily work is just the basics, keeping things rolling rather than big builds or fancy upgrades. I guess it's the bread and butter of the job, but seeing it as a solid number was a surprise. Has anyone else come across stats like that that put your daily grind into perspective?

Count 220 flats in a year? That's barely one a day for a whole shop.

How many mechanics are in that shop anyway?

Thomas.mark makes a good point about the daily count, but 220 still sounds low to me. Our shop probably does that many just from weekend warriors alone. It really shows how different each shop's traffic can be.
