My uncle told me to start Fargo from season 1 and ignore anyone who says skip to season 2

Sat through season 1 wondering when it would get good and now I'm on season 2 realizing he was totally right because the first season sets up all the character quirks that pay off later, has anyone else had someone steer them wrong about where to start a show?

Read a reviewer say the same thing about season 1 being essential setup.

Yeah totally, the "it gets good later" defense is getting old.

and honestly it's not just shows or movies right? like people do this with everything now. "just stick with the job for a year, it gets better" or "keep going to this restaurant, they have good days" like no, if something sucks at the start, it's probably just gonna keep sucking lol. our whole culture is built on this weird sunk cost thing where we pretend the beginning doesn't count. i blame social media for making us think everything needs a slow burn payoff when really most stuff is just mediocre from the jump.
