A librarian's side comment changed how I run our group reads

Last month at our Tuesday meeting in the back room of the public library, one of the librarians overheard us arguing about whether the narrator was reliable. She just said, "you know the author published a deleted chapter on their personal site, right?" None of us had checked. That one comment sent us down a rabbit hole of author interviews and old drafts, and it completely shifted how we saw the ending. Now I always spend ten minutes before each meeting digging for deleted scenes or first-edition differences. Has anyone else found a hidden piece of context that flipped their whole group's interpretation?

That librarian comment thing reminded me of my buddy's book club. They read a classic and one guy found the author's original ending in a university archive online. Whole group was mad about the published one for a week after.
