Paid $140 for a book club debate coach, worst money I ever spent

Our club in Austin spent months arguing over whether to include more indie authors. I hired this coach who claimed she could fix our voting system so every pick felt fair. She gave us a 12 page rubric that made choosing a book feel like doing taxes. Nobody even used her method, and we went back to just shouting until someone gives in. I couldve bought 8 paperbacks for that price and gotten more value. Has anyone else tried paying for external help and regretted it big time?

Man, I feel your pain. I once paid a guy $80 to teach my crew a new way to organize our van, and he just gave us a color coded chart that nobody ever looked at. We ended up back to throwing tools in the back and yelling at each other, same as always. At least you got a good story out of it, even if it cost more than a nice dinner.
