Sci-fi book I hated turned out to be amazing... sort of

Picked up "The Left Hand of Darkness" for my book club last month and almost quit after 50 pages. The made-up pronouns and slow start felt like a chore. But by the end I was arguing with everyone that it's actually brilliant. Anybody else have a book that flipped on you like that?

I heard Ursula Le Guin actually hated that book at first too, wild right?

Oh come on, you actually sat through the whole thing? I gave up on that book twice, it’s way too pretentious for my taste.

Heard Le Guin herself wasn't a fan at first either, which is pretty funny. Makes me wonder if you have to hate it a little before it clicks.
