Unpopular opinion: that book club over in Oakwood was way too picky about page counts

I joined a local book club last month and they refused to even consider anything under 300 pages... called it 'light reading' like that's a bad thing. Then I brought in a 180 page novella that had more depth than the last three doorstoppers we read combined. Has anyone else run into this page-count snobbery in their group?

Tiny books often hit harder because they cut the filler.

@john_cooper That's exactly right. I've found myself reading books under 200 pages more and more lately because they respect my time and stick with me longer than a 500 page slog that could've been half the length.
