Saw a reply on my buddy's woodworking post that was 40 words of pure nothing, so I clicked the profile
My buddy posted a pic of a walnut cutting board he finished last Tuesday. Gets a comment like "What a stunning display of craftsmanship, the dedication truly shines through in every grain and detail of this remarkable piece." No question, no congrats, nothing about wood. So I clicked the account. 200 comments in 3 days, all the same paragraph structure, all ending on a vague compliment. Every post it replies to gets the same treatment. My buddy has 300 followers, so who is this even for. I reported it and the profile is still up a week later. Are these things farming karma to sell later, or is someone just running a script for fun? Anyone know what the end goal is?
Bot accounts like that are often used to build up a history so the account looks real, then the owner flips it to a spam or scam page once it has enough age on it. The comments are just filler to get past spam filters, so the account itself is the product being sold.
