I had to choose between waiting on that system's support ticket or paying a local cyber guy I found on Yelp in Portland. I went with the human, $75 for a 20 minute call, he spotted a mismatched IP pattern the bot missed. Got my shop unlocked Thursday morning. I passed 500 followers on my art account Tuesday, then by Thursday morning over 200 had unfollowed with zero new follows, so is this normal bot cleanup or did I get flagged somehow?

That 4am Facebook comment turned out to be a sneaky AI sales bot

I run a small local hiking group and last Tuesday someone commented on our event page with this super supportive message about loving the outdoors. Seemed normal until they replied to every single member with the same line and a link to a gear store. I checked their profile and it had no photos, 3 friends, and a bio that was just keywords. So I copy pasted their comment into a few bot detection sites and two of them flagged it as AI generated with 90% confidence. The kicker is their account was created 2 weeks ago and joined 40 different groups in one day. My account crossed 10k on Tuesday, then by Thursday it dropped to 9,400 with zero explanation. Got a fake growth expert DM with a stock photo profile pic, he vanished when I asked a simple question

Last Tuesday I got a DM from someone I'd never interacted with, supposedly a 'growth expert' named Marcus. The profile was 3 days old with exactly 47 followers, all of them random crypto bots. He started with 'Hey, love your pest control posts!' but I've never once posted about my job on that account. Then he pasted a paragraph about how he could teach me to 'scale my online presence' with a link to a $199 course. I asked him one simple question about what specific post he liked and he said 'the one about the customer issue' which could match anything. I reverse searched his profile pic, found it on a stock photo site from 2018. He never replied after that, just deleted his account. Anyone else getting these fake warm-up DMs where they clearly scraped your profile but didn't read a single word you actually wrote? It's getting SO obvious lately.

Saw 40 fake follower accounts in one Twitter thread about a local diner

Was scrolling a post about Joe's Diner in Tulsa and noticed the replies. Every other comment had a random girl's photo, zero bios, and a link to some crypto thing. They all posted within 2 minutes of each other. I counted 40 of them before I stopped. The diner's account itself seemed real, but the engagement was clearly bought. Has anyone else spotted this on small business posts lately?

Two years ago I hand-checked every single follow request, now I just scroll past most of them

Back in 2023 I ran a small vintage game page with about 4,000 followers. I used to go through every single account that requested to follow, click on their profile, look at their posting history, check if they had 3 or 4 random replies on random posts, all that stuff. It took me upwards of an hour a day, easy. Then I got hacked in March and lost the whole account, so I started fresh last summer. Now with the new page I just glance at the profile picture and the follower to following ratio. If they have 2,000 followers but follow 2,300 accounts and their last post is from 2019, I let them in anyway. Actually I let almost everyone in now. I figure the spam bots will get purged eventually, and the real people who want to talk about obscure Sega Saturn games are worth the noise. Has anyone else dialed back their vetting process big time, or am I just being lazy now?

Someone in a homebrew group posted this perfect 3 paragraph answer about pH meters, but every sentence had the same rhythm and zero typos. I called them out and they said 'good catch' in 4 seconds, which sealed it. How do y'all spot these before you waste your lunch break reading them?

Saw a fake account at the Grindhouse Diner last night sharing weird links

I was grabbing a burger at Grindhouse Diner on Broadway around 10 PM and this account on the community board kept posting the same link to a sketchy site every 5 minutes. The username had random numbers and a stock photo profile, no real posts just those links. Mods need to check it out before someone clicks it, I flagged it but nothing happened yet. Has anyone else seen this kind of spam popping up in local spots?

Picked the wrong side on a Twitter argument about AI art and got ratio'd bad

So last week I jumped into this thread about whether AI generated images count as real art. I was pretty sure I was on the right side arguing that it's just a tool like any other. But man, the replies came in fast and they were brutal. People were posting screenshots of my old posts where I complained about bots. Someone even dug up a tweet from 2019 where I said I could always tell the difference between real and fake. The whole thing blew up and I ended up with like 200 quote tweets calling me out. My phone was buzzing nonstop for two days. I finally just deleted the whole thread and logged off. Has anyone else misread the room this bad on a hot take?

This guy I know from a marketing meetup in Austin kept pushing this AI content generator called AutoWriterPro. Said it would crank out blog posts that rank instantly and save me 10 hours a week. So I paid $50 for a month, let it write 5 posts for my site about fixing old motorcycles... and not one cracked page 10 on Google. The writing was full of weird phrases no real person would use. Spotted a fake profile that was too perfect at everything

Been browsing this forum for a few months learning how to spot bots. Last week I found a profile that had perfect grammar in every post. No typos, no weird caps, nothing. That was my first red flag. Real people mess up sometimes. Then I checked their posting history. They replied to 47 different threads in 3 hours across totally random topics. No way a human does that. The final clue was all their photos had the same lighting and background. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with obvious bot accounts?
