Heard 'mid' and 'cooked' in the same day, finally get the difference.

My little cousin in Dallas said a new song was 'mid' but a movie was 'cooked'. Had to ask. Mid is just average, forgettable. Cooked is a total disaster, beyond saving. The movie was apparently so bad it was funny. Anyone got other examples of this kind of tiered slang for quality?

Spent $800 on a star tracker and it's the best money I ever wasted

Bought a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2i last year, thinking it would fix my blurry deep space shots. It did, but only after I spent three whole nights in my backyard just trying to get the polar alignment right. Now my Orion Nebula photos are sharp, but I still feel like I paid for a fancy lesson in frustration. Anyone have a simpler setup they actually like?

Warning: I just logged my 500th hour on a single engine rebuild for a 6.7 Powerstroke and the number actually scared me a little.

The owner kept adding 'while you're in there' items, turning a simple top-end job into a full teardown, so what's the most hours you've ever sunk into one vehicle before it felt like a black hole?

My live stream crashed during the biggest sponsor reveal I've ever done.

I was in my home studio in Austin, about to show the new gear from a company that had paid me $2,000 for the segment. Right as I clicked to play their reveal video, my entire OBS setup froze. I had to stare at a frozen screen for what felt like five minutes while I frantically rebooted everything. The chat was pure chaos, and I ended up having to do the whole reveal from my phone camera. Has anyone else had a major tech fail during a paid promotion, and how did you handle it with the sponsor?

Just bought a $40 fountain pen for my bullet journal and I'm not sure it was worth it

I got a Lamy Safari last month thinking it would make my writing look nicer and more consistent. The ink flow is smooth, but I find myself worrying about smudging and the pen skipping on some paper. It's also a bit heavier than my usual gel pens, so my hand gets tired faster during longer journaling sessions. I keep going back to my old pack of Pilot G2s that cost like $7. Has anyone else switched to a fountain pen and actually stuck with it for daily bujo use? I'm curious if I just need to get used to it or if it's not the right tool for me.

Update: My fabric dye ran at a big show in Austin and everyone told me to scrap the piece

I was setting up my booth for the Austin Fashion Week pop-up last month when I saw the blue from my silk jacket had bled onto the white linen pants. The whole look was ruined right before judging. Most people said to pull it from the show, but I grabbed some white fabric paint and a thin brush. I turned the bleed marks into tiny, intentional cloud shapes along the seam. The judges actually loved the 'watercolor effect' and asked where I got the fabric printed. Has anyone else saved a piece from a dye disaster with a quick fix?

PSA: A homeowner's comment about my wire pulling made me change my whole approach

I was finishing a kitchen rewire in a 1920s house in Tacoma last spring. The homeowner, an older guy who used to be a machinist, watched me pull a new 12/2 through a tight stud bay. He said, 'You know, you're fighting that cable. It looks like you're trying to win a wrestling match with it.' He was right. I was forcing it, getting frustrated, and probably putting too much strain on the sheathing. He suggested I try pulling a little, then backing it out a few inches, then pulling again, almost like working a saw. I tried it. That little bit of back-and-forth motion let the cable find its own path around the old nails and knots. It took maybe two extra minutes, but it went in smooth with no kinks. I've been doing it that way ever since on old work. It's a small thing, but it saves my arms and the cable. Has anyone else picked up a simple trick like that from a client?

Hot take: My old rock tumbler from a box store versus a Lortone 33B is like night and day.

After running identical batches of Montana agates for three weeks, the Lortone's consistent barrel speed produced a perfect polish while the cheaper one just made gritty rocks.
