Just realized my neighbor's 3-word comment about my lawn changed how I garden

Last Tuesday I was out pulling dandelions from my front yard in Bothell when my neighbor Sharon walked by and said 'you fight nature.' It hit different because I never thought of it that way before. I always saw gardening as making things nice, not fighting. But she was right. I spent 4 hours that weekend pulling weeds, spraying grubs, and trimming bushes that just want to grow wild. It made me wonder if I should just let some areas go natural instead of fighting all the time. Sharon told me she stopped using weed killer 2 years ago and just lets clover grow now. Her yard looks fine honestly. Has anyone else had a neighbor say one simple thing that made you totally change your approach to something?

Sharon's out here dropping wisdom bombs like she's a lawn philosopher. Next she'll tell me my begonias are just in a toxic relationship with the sun. My neighbor Bob once told me my tomato stakes looked like a crime scene and now I can't unsee it. Honestly if clover's good enough for the bees it's good enough for my lawn.

Bob's probably the same guy who says your hose is 'making a statement' too.

Bees don't care about dandelions so I stopped fighting them a few years ago. If you want to keep the clover without it taking over, mow it a bit higher than you normally would. I do my normal grass at 3 inches, clover spots at 4. Also if your tomato stakes really look like a crime scene, try bamboo poles tied with garden tape instead of that orange twine. Bob might still have opinions but at least they won't be evidence.
