Warning: I saw a brand delete a mean reply and the internet lost its mind
I was scrolling at 2am in bed and watched a skincare brand remove one snarky comment about their $48 cream, then screenshot it and post it on their own story with a laughing emoji. Within an hour they had 4,000 replies calling them bullies, so has anyone else seen a brand do a public apology that made it ten times worse?
Back in 2021 I watched a candle company double down on a rude reply and it dragged on for like two weeks. What finally shut it down was the owner going live for 3 minutes, saying sorry once, and then just never posting about it again. The more they tried to explain themselves, the worse it got, so sometimes the fix is silence and moving on.
The part everyone misses is that the screenshots are the real product now. A brand deleting a mean comment and then posting the receipt is basically farming outrage on purpose, because the fight gets way more eyes than the cream ever would. I worked at a place that ran into this and the numbers were gross, the angry week beat their whole normal month for clicks. The apology tour is just season two of the same show, and the people sharing it in disgust are doing the marketing for free. So every time you dunk on a brand like this, check if they gained followers first, because half of them are not sorry at all, they are just counting.
