Used to think that too, but modern mortar and technique let them move quick without skimping on quality. Maybe it's just me but the new stuff seems plenty solid.

Friend of mine had a shed base poured with quick-set mortar. Still level and firm after all the rain we've had.

Damn, you actually changed my mind on this. The new tools and techniques really do seem to make a difference. I guess I was just stuck in the old way of thinking.
