That time I doubted the old-timer about adding lime to the mix

My foreman kept insisting on throwing hydrated lime in our mortar even though the bag said otherwise. Tried it on a small garden wall last month and the stuff didn't crack a bit, proved me dead wrong. Anybody else get schooled by a tip that seemed outdated at first?

Oh yeah! That old school plasterer showed me the same trick.

@nancy475 Same here, that trick was a lifesaver on my last renovation. I had this weird textured wall I was trying to smooth out and nothing was working until I tried that old method. Just a little water and patience, let the plaster breathe a bit before you start working it. Made the whole job way easier and the finish came out cleaner than anything I'd tried before lol.
