My sister made me feel bad about my $1.50 meal prep

She came over last Tuesday and saw me eating my bean and rice bowl. She said 'you can afford better than that' and it hit different because she's the one always complaining about her credit card debt. I make these bowls because I'm saving for a down payment on a house, not because I'm broke. What do you say to people who judge your cheap meals without knowing your actual situation?

Have you tried asking her flat out what her monthly credit card payment is? I've had friends make comments like that before and when I told them I'm saving 40% of my income for a house they usually shut up real quick. People love to project their own money problems onto others. Your bean and rice bowl is probably way healthier than whatever she's eating anyway.

Betty's got the right idea, but 40% might be a stretch for most people, lol. Even saving 15% for a house would make her back off once she hears the numbers.
