PSA: A hostel manager in Lisbon laughed at my packed lunch and said 'real travelers eat out'.
I was trying to save money, and his comment made me feel cheap for a whole trip. Anyone else run into that kind of attitude when you're just being smart with your cash?

Remember that friend who brought instant noodles to a fancy ski lodge? The staff kept side-eyeing her kettle like she was committing a crime. She just wanted to save for an extra day on the slopes, not fund the restaurant's new decor. Some people act like spending money stupidly is a badge of honor.

Ever see someone get judged for bringing a sandwich to a museum cafe? My buddy did that in Paris and the cashier gave him this look like he'd brought his own chair to the opera. It's just smart budgeting, not a crime. That manager sounds like he's forgotten what traveling is actually about.

That "badge of honor" line from noah_murray is spot on. Just pack your lunch and ignore them, your wallet will thank you later like jade_davis said.
