My grocery bill dropped $180 after I stopped trusting the weekly flyer
For years I planned every meal around what was on sale at the big chain near my house in Spokane. Pulled out the flyer every Sunday, made a list, drove over, and still spent around $650 a month for two people. About four months back a buddy told me to check the markdown meat bin at a smaller local market instead, and I laughed at first. But I gave it one try, bought a pack of chicken for $3.40 that was just fine, and now I hit that bin twice a week before I look at any ad. The savings added up fast, but what really surprised me was how much less food I toss out now, so has anyone else ditched the flyer method and found a hidden spot like a dented can shelf or day-old bakery rack?
180 bucks is nice but that's a one time number, not a monthly thing. I tried the markdown bin for a while and half the time the meat was already turning or had that weird smell once you opened it. You save cash up front then toss it anyway, so where's the win. Also chicken at 3.40 a pack tells me it was about to go bad, not that you cracked some code. Good that it works for you but calling it a system feels like a stretch.
