Vent: The gas station pump limit ruined my whole cash budget plan
I was in Phoenix last Tuesday at a Circle K, trying to fill up for a road trip to see my sister. The pump stopped at $75 and wouldn't let me go past that, but my tank needed like $82 to hit full. I had just switched to using cash envelopes for the month, so I had the exact bills in my hand, but the pump froze and made me go inside to pre-pay the rest. The clerk took another 10 minutes because they had to run two separate transactions, and by the time I got back out, someone had parked behind me and I couldn't move. Now I know to always pre-pay in increments under 75 bucks, but has anyone else hit this cap at a chain station and had to deal with the double trip? It's such a dumb little rule that messes up a tight budget.
