PSA: My fridge compressor died last Tuesday and I saved $300

I was about to call a repair service from the first ad I saw, but my neighbor in apartment 4B told me to check the warranty first. Turns out my fridge was still under a 5 year parts warranty from the manufacturer, so I only paid the $150 labor fee. Has anyone else had luck with appliance warranties saving them a big chunk of money?

My buddy Jake had his washing machine motor go out last year. He was ready to buy a new one, but his wife found the receipt in a kitchen drawer. The warranty covered the whole repair, so he only paid like sixty bucks for the service call.

My cousin's fridge died right after the Super Bowl party. She was already looking at new models online, but her husband dug the manual out of the basement. Turns out there was a five year parts warranty they totally forgot about. Saved them over eight hundred bucks.

Man, this happens all the time! It's wild how we just accept that big things are broken and start shopping. Like @sarahbailey said about the fridge, we forget about warranties the second we unbox something. I bet half the "broken" appliances getting replaced just needed a covered part. Makes you want to keep a special folder for all those receipts and booklets.
