Spent $60 on a deep freezer in 2019 and it has run nonstop since, zero repairs
My mom paid $400 for one in 1988 that died in 3 years, so I figured mine was a coin flip, but it has kept a half cow and about 200 pounds of veggies from going bad every single summer, and I honestly think it has paid for itself 10 times over by now.
That $60 price tag is wild compared to what your mom paid. I got a small chest freezer for $50 at a scratch and dent sale about six years ago, mostly because I wanted to buy meat in bulk when it went on sale. It has never needed a single repair either, just a wipe down now and then. The power bill went up maybe two or three dollars a month, so it really does pay for itself fast if you fill it up.
