Found out my habit trackers were killing my productivity from a simple blog post

I read this blog post on Tiny Ray of Sunshine last week about how tracking too many habits can backfire. The writer said that tracking more than 4 things at once makes your brain feel overloaded and you stop doing them. I was tracking 12 habits every day and wondering why I kept skipping half of them. I cut it down to 3 this week and I've actually stuck with all of them. Has anyone else noticed that less tracking means more follow through?

Started tracking just my water intake and steps and ditched everything else. Turns out my brain was treating my habit list like a to do list and getting overwhelmed. Funny how we think tracking more means being more in control but it actually just adds noise. The blog post thing makes sense because once you cut down you actually notice what sticks.

Dropped mine from eight to three and my completion rate went way up. The whole point of tracking is to build habits, not maintain a second job checking boxes. Found that if I can't remember what I'm supposed to track without looking at my list, I've already lost.
