Had a real 'aha' moment when I tried to skip my monthly spread
I've been bullet journaling for about 8 months now and I always thought monthly spreads were a waste of time. I just used my daily log and figured that was enough. But last week I was trying to find a note about a dentist appointment from 3 weeks ago and it took me like 15 minutes of flipping through pages. I got so frustrated I almost threw my journal across the room. Then I realized the whole point of the monthly log is to have a quick reference for stuff like that. I spent an hour setting up a simple monthly spread with just a calendar and a task list and now everything feels way more organized. Has anyone else been stubborn about certain spreads and then totally changed their mind after a mess up?

Honestly your monthly log is supposed to be a future log not a past log. I think you're describing a monthly calendar where you write down appointments and tasks ahead of time. The dentist thing you should have written down the day you made the appointment, not three weeks later when you were digging for it. Ngl that's a common mistake I see new bujo people make. The monthly spread is meant to be your overview of the month so you can look at it and know what's coming up, not a place to store notes from weeks ago. Tbh it sounds like you're using it more as an index than a planner, which is fine but that's a different thing entirely.

Hold on, is a month's worth of lost time really that huge of a deal? I mean, yeah, digging through your journal for 15 minutes is annoying, but life happens. Your mileage may vary but I've had way bigger mess-ups that taught me the same lesson. I get why adding a monthly spread helps, but sometimes I think people act like a tiny inconvenience is a total disaster. Take this with a grain of salt, but maybe it's just part of the learning curve and not a sign that your whole system is broken. It's just paper at the end of the day, you know?
