Pro tip: stop copying Instagram layouts into your bullet journal

I keep seeing posts in here with these fancy spreads that look like they came straight off some influencer's feed. Tried that for 2 weeks back in March and all it did was make me hate journaling. My buddy Dave in Denver does the same thing and he's already on his third notebook this year. A bullet journal is supposed to be a tool not a art project. Am I the only one who thinks simpler spreads actually get used?

My friend Rachel spent like 3 hours on one monthly spread with washi tape and perfect lettering and then never wrote a single thing in it the whole month. She was so mad she switched to a plain notebook and now actually uses it.

That line about it being "a tool not an art project" is the whole thing - I bet most people who quit bullet journaling quit because they got burned out trying to make it look good instead of actually using it.
