Got burned on a contractor who ghosted mid job. Now I do my own estimates.

Hired a guy through a referral to remodel my small office space. Paid him $3,200 upfront for materials and labor. After 4 days of work he stopped showing up and wouldn't answer calls. Had to finish the drywall and trim myself. Learned my lesson about paying half up front instead of the full amount. Anyone else stick to a strict payment schedule after getting shafted like that?

wait THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS upfront? For a small office? Dude that is insane. I got burned for seven hundred once and that hurt. Can't imagine handing over that kind of cash and then watching the guy disappear. You're a lot more patient than me, I would have been blowing up his phone from day one. Glad you at least managed to finish it yourself though.
