PSA: I keep seeing guys in my area not properly securing the drop to the house bracket.

It causes slack that gets caught by lawnmowers, and I've had to re-run three lines this month alone. How do you guys make sure that first attachment point is actually tight?

Honestly, a little slack isn't the end of the world. You're putting so much stress on that first bracket, it's going to wear out faster or even crack the housing. A tight line has no give when something pulls on it. I'd rather my line pop loose cleanly than yank the whole bracket off the side of my house. Seen that happen, and then you're fixing more than just a wire.

My neighbor's mower ate his line last week for the same reason. I use a pair of pliers to get that initial loop really snug.

So when you use pliers, are you just pulling the line tight or are you actually twisting that loop to lock it in place? I've seen guys twist it into a kind of knot before they clamp it down.
