Heard a customer at the shop call a lens a 'glass tube'

It was a guy picking up his fixed 50mm, and he told his friend 'they fixed my fancy glass tube.' Made me remember not everyone knows the jargon we live in. How do you explain a simple repair to someone without using any technical terms?

Isn't it funny how we all have our own words for things? I love hearing stuff like that, it really makes you step back. I usually just say the part that lets the light in got cleaned or straightened out, so the picture looks clear again. It's tough to leave out all the techy details when you're used to them, but it feels good to make it simple for someone.

But is it really that deep? It's just words for stuff we see every day. I get wanting to make things simple, but sometimes the techy details are the whole point. Not everything needs to be watered down for people.

Oh man, that's great. Fancy glass tube is honestly more accurate than half the stuff I say. I mean, we're all just out here pointing expensive tubes at stuff and hoping for the best, right? Trying to explain it without the jargon just makes you realize how weird it all is. You basically just say the little pictures were coming in blurry so you cleaned the window they go through.
