Spent $150 on a 'universal' lens spanner wrench that couldn't handle a simple Canon FD mount
The jaws were too soft and just slipped, stripping the retainer ring. Anyone know a solid brand that actually holds up?

Honestly, I've had good luck with those cheap spanners. You gotta make sure the jaws are seated perfectly flat before you turn.

Man, that's rough. I had a similar thing happen with a cheap socket set where the metal just crumbled on a simple oil filter housing. What did you end up doing with the stripped ring, is the lens totally stuck now?
