That Tuesday I got a 1987 Canon F-1 to fire again
Bench was packed with three broken shutter curtains and a stuck winder, then this mint F-1 walks in with a seized mirror mechanism. Took about 4 hours of cleaning old grease and swapping a spring from my parts bin to get it clicking smooth. Anyone else ever get a 40 year old camera back to life and feel like a wizard for the rest of the week?

Hell yeah, that feeling never gets old! I had a beat up Nikon F2 that would only fire at 1/1000th no matter what you set, turned out a tiny brake pad was just gummed up with decades of old lubricant. Spent a whole evening soaking it in lighter fluid and adjusting the tension screw, and when the shutter finally gave that crisp slow click at 1 second I nearly yelled out loud. It's wild how these old mechanical cameras just need a little patience and some fresh oil in the right spots. Makes you appreciate how overengineered they were compared to today's plastic stuff. Did you keep that spring you swapped in or did you have to rob another donor camera?
