TIL my sleeping pad had a slow leak for 6 months and I never noticed

I was out in Shenandoah last weekend and woke up on the ground. Turns out the valve was just slightly open the whole time. Has anyone else dealt with a valve that won't seal tight?

Read a post from a gear repair guy who said a tiny bit of dirt or sand in the valve can keep it from sealing all the way. He recommended rinsing it out with warm water and then blowing through it to clear the gunk. Might be worth trying before you buy a whole new pad.

Reminds me of when my buddy tried to fix his old bicycle pump the same way. Filled it with warm water and blew through it, got a face full of rusty water instead. Ended up buying a new pump anyway but at least his teeth were cleaner. Sometimes you just gotta accept that some things are done for and buy the replacement.

@alexc93 my cousin tried that trick and ended up with soggy gear and a bigger headache.
