Unpopular opinion: my $18 foam pad beat my $120 inflatable on a 4 night trip in Utah
Went to Moab two weeks ago and brought both pads because I couldn't decide. The inflatable was lighter and packed smaller, but it popped a baffle on night two and I woke up on the ground. The cheap closed cell foam pad I grabbed at a Walmart in Grand Junction for $18 never failed once. Weird part is I slept warmer on the foam because it doesn't lose air or get cold spots under my hips. I know everyone loves their fancy pads and reviews always rate them higher, but for 4 nights the foam won easy. Anyone else go back to foam after getting burned by an inflatable?
I used to be all about my fancy inflatable, swore I'd never go back to foam. Then mine sprung a leak on night three of a trip and I spent the rest of the time on a friend's old foam pad, slept like a rock. Now it rides in my pack as backup no matter what.
