Overheard a hiring manager say they skip resumes with word salad, stopped me cold

Was at a coffee shop near my office in Austin last Tuesday, not really eavesdropping but it was hard not to hear this woman on the phone. She was clearly a hiring manager at some tech company, saying how she gets like 200 resumes for one role and anyone who uses phrases like 'synergize' or 'thought leader' or 'results-driven' goes straight in the trash. Said it takes her about 8 seconds to decide. I went home and looked at my own resume and sure enough I had like 5 of those buzzwords in there. Rewrote the whole thing that night with just plain language. Has anyone actually tried removing all the corporate fluff and did it help get more interviews?

Oh man, I once put "blue sky thinker" on mine and my buddy still roasts me for it.

Why would you let what your buddy thinks stop you from owning what you put on there? Isn't a resume supposed to sell you, not make everyone laugh at you?

Think we're all just drowning in the same fake language everywhere now.

Right? I put "synergistic team player" once and still hear about it.
