That 'constructive criticism' from my old manager actually made my resume better
She told me my two-page resume was just a hobby list and made me cut it to one page with only measurable wins, and now I've gotten 4 callbacks in 3 weeks, has anyone else had luck ignoring the 'keep it comprehensive' advice?
Recruiters spend like 6 seconds scanning a resume, so nobody reads that second page anyway. I saw a study once that said hiring managers basically just look for numbers and keywords, not your life story. Cutting it down forces you to actually say something real instead of listing every minor thing you touched. Your old manager basically did you a favor by making you think like a recruiter instead of an employee. The whole "comprehensive" advice just makes people write essays nobody wants to read. If measurable wins get callbacks, then that's the only rule that matters.
Man, people act like getting past a screening is the same as getting the job. @the_hayden, I get that recruiters skim fast, but six seconds seems like a made-up number someone pulled to sell a course. You can trim the fluff without acting like one page is the only way to prove you actually did stuff.
