That whole 'follow your passion' advice was a trap for me

I bought into it hard for like 3 years after college and ended up broke and stressed in Denver. Then I took a boring IT support job just for the pay and realized I like having money more than loving my work. Anyone else find out the hard way that passion is overrated?

Did you ever feel like you were letting yourself down by giving up on the passion stuff? I went through that when I switched from trying to be a musician to a regular desk job. It took me a solid year to realize having a roof over my head and not stressing about food was more important than some idea of "following my dream." Sometimes the boring path is just the smart one.

Used to be all about that passion stuff myself. Thought it was the only way to live. Got burned out and broke and had to face reality.

Yeah the "boring IT support job" part really hit home for me. I used to be one of those guys who'd tell people to chase their dreams no matter what. Then I spent two years trying to make a woodworking side hustle work and barely paid rent. Took a regular construction job just to get by and honestly waking up knowing I have a steady paycheck is way better than waking up stressed about where my next client is coming from. Passion is cool for hobbies but it doesn't pay bills.
