Got so tired of my miter saw throwing dust everywhere, I tried a cheap furnace filter and a bungee cord.

Cut a 20x20 filter to fit the back port and strapped it on, catches probably 80% of the fine stuff now. Anyone have a better fix for a DeWalt DWS780 that doesn't involve buying the official overpriced bag?

That airflow thing is a myth, these saws have pretty strong blowers.

Yeah, that's a solid point about the motor working too hard.

Why even bother with a filter when you could just let the dust settle and clean it later? That furnace filter hack seems like it would choke the saw's airflow and make the motor work harder, which could burn it out faster. The official bag is expensive, but it's designed for the tool and probably doesn't risk damaging it. Sometimes the cheap fix ends up costing more.
