Just realized I was wrong about using only 16d nails for framing

I was talking with a guy named Carl at the lumber yard in Springfield, and he said he's been using 8d nails for all his non-load bearing interior walls for years. He said it's faster, splits less, and the inspector has never flagged it. I always thought you had to use 16d for everything, no questions asked. Has anyone else made this switch and had it hold up over time?

Wow, I was stuck on that same rule for ages. But honestly, the 8d nails do the job just fine for stuff like that and they're way easier to drive. My old boss finally talked me into trying it and I haven't looked back.

Nah, 8d nails bend too easy on thicker material. Gotta stick with the 10d.

Ha, reminds me of the time I used deck screws for a whole shed.
