Torn between a biscuit joiner and dowels for a big built-in project, went with dowels and the alignment was perfect.
After spending $300 on a new doweling jig for the custom bookshelves in a Seattle remodel, the joints came out rock solid, but does anyone have a go-to method for keeping the glue squeeze-out to a minimum on oak?

Rock solid joints" are great, but glue on oak is a pain. I wipe it with a damp rag right after assembly, before it gets tacky. Works every time.

Wait, doesn't a damp rag just push the glue deeper into the oak grain? I mean, I've had that leave a cloudy stain. I get way less squeeze-out by using way less glue, like just a thin line in the dowel hole, not filling it.

Saw a tip once about using a glue syringe to put just a drop in the bottom of the dowel hole before you insert it. That way the dowel pushes the glue up and out the top as it goes in, which supposedly gives a full bond with less mess to clean up.
