Got told my tack strip spacing was off by an old timer at a job in Boise
He said I was putting them too close together, like every 4 inches, and it was making the carpet too tight in the middle of the room. Now I space them about 6 to 8 inches apart depending on the pile and it lays way better. Anyone else have a specific tip they got from a veteran that fixed a problem?

My old foreman in Phoenix always said to stretch from the middle out, not corner to corner. That little shift stopped all my wrinkles on big commercial jobs. It sounds basic but it changed everything for me.

Totally get that, it forces the tension to spread evenly instead of fighting itself in the corners. I learned the same thing the hard way on a big floor, pulling diagonally just left these stubborn ripples right in the center. Now I always start dead center and work in a plus sign pattern before filling in the quarters, it locks everything down flat. That foreman gave you the real secret, it seems so obvious once you see it work.
