Home Depot in Chicago gave me a weird lesson on seam placement

I was helping a buddy with a job in Chicago last August. The homeowner wanted us to run the seam right down the middle of a hallway, which we normally avoid. But after we laid it, the light from their big window hit it just right and the seam was way less visible than if we had tucked it off to the side like usual. Any of you guys ever have a situation where breaking the rule on seams actually worked out better?

Carved in stone" is a good way to put it, but @annas87 is right that it's just a rule of thumb. I had a living room where the afternoon sun actually made an off-center seam POP like crazy, so we ripped it up and went down the middle - looked WAY better.

Rule carved in stone" is literally just a rule of thumb, not a law.

Ngl that's wild, I've never heard of a window actually helping hide a center seam like that. Honestly thought that rule was carved in stone.
