Had to choose between a staged apology video or just deleting the tweet
Last week I was stuck between two options after a celebrity I follow posted something really tone-deaf about the LA fires. Option A was to film a quick apology video looking Sad and sorry, Option B was just delete the tweet and hope nobody noticed. They went with the video but it came off so fake and scripted that people made 50 memes of it in one day. I honestly think just deleting would have been way less embarrassing for them. Has anyone else seen a celeb pick the wrong damage control move?

Oh man, I actually used to think the apology video was always the way to go! Like I figured it showed you were taking it seriously and facing the music. But seeing that whole LA fires thing blow up with the memes and everything totally changed my mind. The video just made it ten times worse because everyone could pick apart their facial expressions and see how fake it was. Deleting and staying quiet would have saved them from all that mockery and maybe people would have just moved on to the next drama in a day. Now I get why some celebs just vanish for a while instead of trying to prove they're sorry with a bad acting performance.

Gotta disagree with you there @john_cooper. Staying quiet when you screw up makes you look like a coward who thinks the problem will just go away if you ignore it. At least a video shows you're willing to face the backlash head on, even if it's awkward.
