Found a way to keep my station knives from walking off during service

Tbh I got sick of buying a new chef knife every 3 months because someone would grab mine off the magnet strip mid-rush. I tried taping my name on it, that didn't stop anyone. Last week I wrapped the handle with bright orange grip tape, the kind you use for tools. Nobody touches it now, and I can spot it across the line in a second. Anyone else got a low-key solution for the knife thieves in their kitchen?

Three months is wild, I woulda lost my mind way before that. Honestly orange grip tape is genius though, I bet even the dishwashers know not to grab that thing now. I had a buddy who painted his whole handle with that neon nail polish stuff and it looked like a glowstick, but same idea I guess. It's crazy how people just grab whatever blade is closest when the tickets are flying, like they cant stop for half a second to check. You basically tricked em into thinking your knife is radioactive or something, I love it.

People treat anything with a custom color or texture like it's got a force field around it. Same thing happens with my thermostat at home, the second I put a little orange sticker on it nobody in my family messes with it. It's like when someone marks their lunch in the shared fridge with a weird sticker, everyone suddenly respects the boundary. We all just skim past things that look owned or personalized. The bright grip tape is less about keeping your knife sharp and more about telling everyone's brain "this one's claimed, move along." Smart move, honestly.
