Spent 45 minutes looking for a hotel pan that was in my hand the whole time

I was prepping for a banquet last Friday and needed a full-size hotel pan for the braised beef. Checked the dry storage, the walk-in, and the dish pit twice. After 45 minutes of walking in circles, one of the new guys asks what I'm holding. I looked down and I had the stupid pan in my left hand the whole time. Who else has done something this dumb on a busy shift?

Did you at least take a deep breath and pretend you were checking on something else before you handed it over? I feel like @blairtaylor, I've had that exact same moment where you just freeze and question your whole existence after realizing what you did. I once walked around the kitchen for a good 10 minutes with a roll of plastic wrap tucked under my armpit only to tell my sous I couldn't find it. He just pointed at my pit and I wanted to crawl into the walk-in and never come out.

Had a buddy at my old spot who searched for a whole case of frozen chicken wings for ten minutes. He was cussing under his breath, checking the freezer, the walk-in, even the loading dock. The whole time, the case was sitting on the floor behind his own legs. Another cook finally pointed and said "bro, you're standing right in front of it." We all had a good laugh after service ended, but man, the look on his face was priceless. You ever have a moment where you just need to stop and take a deep breath before you flip out?

Oh man I once lost my keys while holding them. Had to just sit down for a solid minute after that one.
