The broker who told me to skip the inspection, 9 months later
My realtor in Logan Square swore the 2-flat we wanted was solid, said save the $450 and skip the home inspection. Found out last week the sewer line is cracked and the basement has a slow leak, now I'm looking at $6k in fixes before winter. Anyone else get talked out of an inspection and regret it?

I read somewhere that sewer line issues are the #1 thing inspectors catch that sellers don't mention, so that $450 would've been chump change compared to what you're facing now. Sorry you got burned, that broker sounds like they were just after the quick sale.

That broker probably slept like a baby knowing they unloaded that money pit. In my experience, the cheap inspections are like buying a lottery ticket where you lose either way. Spend the $450, get told your pipes are fine, and feel ripped off. Or skip it, find out the main line is basically a compost pile, and suddenly that $450 looks like the deal of the century. Guess we know which way this one went. At least the next buyer will get a nice surprise when they do their own inspection.
