Got into it with a homeowner in Boise over a full liner replacement last Thursday.
He insisted his 1970s clay flue was fine after a basic cleaning, but I showed him a 3-inch crack and a missing tile. He called me a scammer trying to upsell, but my boss backed me up and we walked. Do you ever push for the full repair even if it costs you the job?

Honestly you did the right thing walking away. Tbh some people just won't listen until their basement floods or their house fills with smoke. You can't force them to care about their own safety. Ngl it sucks to lose the job but you gotta sleep at night knowing you didn't leave a hazard in place. Your license and reputation are worth more than one angry homeowner.

Ever try to explain a liner to someone who thinks duct tape is a permanent fix? Lost that job but saved my conscience.

Yeah, I've been there. Last month a guy wanted me to patch his cracked pond liner with gorilla tape. I had to show him a piece of the old liner, all brittle and torn, and just said "Keithlane gets it, this stuff turns to dust in five years." I told him the tape would hold water for a week, maybe two, before it peeled right off. He went with the new liner in the end. Sometimes you just have to lay out the facts plain and simple.
